Moutai coffee, Luckin is adding the fiery liquor to its lattes

Luckin Coffee has joined forces with Kweichow Moutai, the maker of China’s fiery national liquor baijiu, for an unusual offering: alcoholic lattes.
On Monday, the popular Chinese coffee chain introduced the “sauce-flavored latte” that includes liquor for 38 yuan ($5.20). For a limited time, customers who order with an online coupon will receive 50% off.
Some drinkers have compared Moutai’s liquor to soy sauce because of its slightly savory notes.
As the new drink became a hot topic on Chinese social media, many users wondered if it was safe to consume on the go. A question about “Can we drive a car after drinking Moutai coffee? ” was the number one subject on social network Weibo on Monday, with 430 million views.
With a typical alcohol content of 53%, Moutai’s baijiu is a throat-tingling spirit.
Due to its strong taste, the clear spirit has been dubbed “firewater.” Moutai’s flagship product, “Feitian,” or “Flying Fairy,” is a staple at Chinese state banquets and business meetings.
According to Luckin, each cup of its new tie-up with Luckin contains just a tiny fraction of liquor, totaling 0.5% alcohol by volume.
However, the company advises against drinking the latte if you are driving, teenager, or pregnant.
As part of Moutai’s efforts to diversify its offerings, the new drink is topped with whipped cream.
In southwest China’s Guizhou province, the brand opened an ice cream store last year that sold spiked desserts infused with its liquor.
