The wife of former Zambia President Edgar Lungu has been released from police custody until she appears in court.

The wife of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has been arrested on three charges, including theft of a motor vehicle.

Along with three others, Esther Lungu is currently in detention in Lusaka, the capital.

It was confirmed by police spokesperson Danny Mwale in a statement that the quartet had also been charged with theft of a Lusaka certificate of title.

They are also accused of possessing property believed to be proceeds of crime.

In addition to Mr Lungu’s family members, several former ministers and government officials are being investigated for suspected criminal activity.

In all cases, they deny any wrongdoing.
