After receiving four fixed penalties in one season, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) automatically docked the county points.

A one-match suspension has also been imposed on Cheteshwar Pujara.

With two games left in the season, Sussex are 30 points behind Worcestershire.

Second-placed teams will join already promoted Durham in Division One next season.

Pujara will not appeal the decisions and won’t be able to play for Sussex in their next Championship match away to Derbyshire, which begins on Tuesday.

He was sanctioned for captaining Sussex during matches in which all four fixed penalties were received, the final two occurring during last week’s 15-run victory over Leicestershire.

In a few instances, the umpires were not impressed, Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace told Radio Sussex after the victory.
