Square CEO Alyssa Henry is stepping down

Jack Dorsey’s fintech company, Block, will lose its CEO in the next month when Alyssa Henry leaves Square.
According to a regulatory filing on Monday, Henry will retire as Square’s chief executive on October 2. He has been with Block for over nine years.
Block’s Square is its payments solutions arm, which includes the Cash App platform, as well as a number of other business units.
The filing said Dorsey will also take on the role of Square Head in addition to his current role as Block Head and Chairperson.
There was no immediate explanation for Henry’s departure.
In a statement issued Monday, a Block company spokesperson said, “Alyssa Henry led Square into becoming a software-led technology company, guided the team during global pandemic lockdowns, and expanded our range of services for small businesses around the globe.”
“Square is what it is today in large part due to Alyssa’s leadership, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” the statement concluded.
Henry served in various roles at Square before leading the company in 2015. Before joining Square, she worked for Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.
