Sergio Busquets joining Lionel Messi at Inter Miami
As announced on Friday, Inter Miami has signed Sergio Busquets, a former Spain and Barcelona midfielder, to team up with Lionel Messi.
He will be reunited with his former Barcelona team-mate Sergio Busquets after moving to Miami earlier this month.
A tweet announcing the player’s arrival was posted by Inter Miami.
In the Twitter post, Sergio Busquets’ nickname was referred to as “Si, Busi.”. A number of people in the game praised Busquets, including former Spain coach Vicente del Bosque.
Upon reaching the end of his contract in the summer, Sergio Busquets announced he would be leaving Barcelona.
In December, the 34-year-old announced his retirement from Spain after 143 appearances.
During the past 15 years, Busquets has played a central role in Barcelona’s successes, including nine Spanish league titles and three Champions League titles.
With Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, Sergio Busquets formed an iconic midfield trio, which also won the 2010 World Cup for Spain.
The owner of Inter Miami Jorge Mas said this week that the club expected to sign three to five new players to join Lionel Messi.
“We’ve been preparing our roster for Messi’s arrival in ’23, so we left a lot of flexibility,” Mas said.
The summer window will bring more signings than people expect… I can say we will potentially make three to five signings.”
Busquets is expected to occupy a ‘Designated Player’ spot in the MLS, where high-earning players have their wages excluded from salary cap calculations.
Also linked to Inter Miami is left-back Jordi Alba, a favourite of Spain and Barcelona.
