The same year, a Statista survey of 400,000 UK children found that Roblox was overwhelmingly more popular than its nearest rival – 67% said they played it as opposed to just 23% who said they played Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time.

Rather than being a traditional game, it allows players to make their own games within it, which is why it’s so popular. As a matter of fact, Roblox refers to players as developers.

It is possible for these developers, who are often children, to create games and even make in-game currency, known as Robux, from other players.

In spite of its popularity and freedom, it has also come under scrutiny for allowing young people to get into game design.

NSPCC and Childline told the that since the pandemic, the number of children calling their helplines with concerns about Roblox has increased fivefold.
