Rafael Nadal on entry list, Nick Kyrgios absent.

The two-time champion Rafael Nadal has been included in the Australian Open entry list after nearly a year out with injury, while Nick Kyrgios looks set to miss the tournament in January as well.

He has been out of action since he injured his hip flexor during the last Australian Open and has been out of action ever since.

Recently, the former world number one confirmed that he will be returning to the tour at the Brisbane International in January.

As a result of injury, Kyrgios has been unable to compete in all four majors in 2023.

As a Wimbledon finalist in 2022, the 28-year-old has struggled with wrist, knee and foot injuries, and said last month that the stars would have to align in order for him to have a chance of making it to the first major of the year. There is still a possibility that he may be given a wildcard in theory.

The defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic is expected to return in an attempt to claim a record-extending 11th Australian Open title as well as a 25th Grand Slam title.

Nadal, who has won 22 majors, announced in May that 2024 will “probably” be his last year on tour.

World number one Iga Swiatek and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will resume their rivalry after both were confirmed.

After taking time off to have children, Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki, and Angelique Kerber will return to Melbourne Park.

Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper, Katie Boulter and Jodie Burrage are all direct qualifiers from Great Britain.

A singles final will be held on 28 January at the Australian Open, which begins on 14 January.
