McCarthy says House will investigate president

Mr. McCarthy stated that the inquiry would focus on allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption by Mr. Biden.

Since the Republicans took control of the House in January, they have been investigating the president.

No concrete evidence of Mr Biden’s misconduct has been found during the hearings.

Yet, they have shed more light on the president’s son Hunter Biden’s business dealings, which Republicans say are questionable, and on Biden’s knowledge of his son’s activities.

McCarthy said there were “serious and credible” allegations against the president at the US Capitol.

In sum, these allegations paint a picture of a corrupt culture, he said.

McCarthy’s decision was quickly condemned by the White House.

“House Republicans have been investigating the President for nine months, but have found no evidence of wrongdoing,” White House spokesman Ian Sams wrote Hunter Biden is currently under federal investigation for possible tax crimes related to his foreign business interests.
