The legendary Meena Kumari will be the subject of a biopic by Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra and India’s top actress Kriti Sanon.

Announcing his ambitious project, Manish recently revealed that the scripting phase has begun.

“I don’t know how it got out, but it is happening,” he told Film Companion. The script is still being worked on. Always pay attention to the script. Reading her books has been a pleasure for me. Based on her books, the film is based on her life. It has always been my fascination to learn more about Meena Kumari.”

According to Manish, 56, veteran actor Rekha inspired him to make a biopic about Meena Kumari.

As Rekha once told me, you will understand Meena Kumari’s genius when you turn 40. And that is true. While I was young and busy working, I became aware of Meena Kumari’s genius, as well as Nargis ji, Dilip Kumar, and Guru Dutt.”

After watching that film, I understand it so much better. Meena Kumari’s expressions, her use of the eyes, and her adah are phenomenal.

Manish Malhotra will soon make his directorial debut under the banner of Dharma Productions, according to India Today.
