Lyon maintain perfect start in the 2023-24 Champions League.

It was a routine win for Lyon over St Polten as they made it back-to-back victories in the 2023-24 Champions League.

In just four minutes, Danielle van de Donk headed in unchallenged from close range to get the hosts underway.

A scrappy bit of play inside the box led to an own goal by St Polten defender Leonarda Balog two minutes into the second half.

In the aftermath of the ball rebounding off the bar, Ada Hegerberg appeared to have added a third goal when scrambling in at close range. In the process, the Norwegian was found to have used an arm, so it was disallowed.

Lyon were never at risk of slipping up against their Austrian rivals, dominating possession and carving out 35 attempts at goal, but manager Sonia Bompastor must be disappointed that they did not win by a greater margin, having defeated Slavia Prague 9-0.

The Lyon defender Selma Bacha told Uefa.com: “We’ve got the win. To be fair, we could have played better, but this is a busy time of year. We’re tired, but tonight only the win matters.

As we analysed the opposition well, we knew there would be space to exploit on the flanks. We played the ball wide, and that’s what we did.

After losing to Chelsea in the first leg of last season’s quarter-final tie, the record eight-time Champions League winners are now unbeaten in 19 games across all competitions – winning 18 and drawing one.

Brann have won both of their games and sit second in the standings with only goal difference keeping them behind leaders Lyon.
