Due to a stress fracture in his right elbow, Archer, 28, missed the entire summer at home.

Despite not being considered fit enough to make the 15-man World Cup squad, he could be one of three reserves.

28 September is the deadline for England to finalize their team for the October and November tournaments in India.

In the thrilling 2019 final when England defeated New Zealand, Archer bowled the super over to win the trophy for the first time.

Since then, injuries have severely hindered his career. Despite making an England comeback earlier this year in limited-overs tours of South Africa and Bangladesh, the latest elbow injury prevented him from playing in the Ashes.

In preparation for Wednesday’s third one-day international against New Zealand, Archer bowled in the nets at The Oval on Tuesday.

In August, selector Luke Wright left his comments when the initial World Cup squad was announced
