Damon recalls wife’s advice after he ‘fell into a depression’

As he continued to work on a movie, Matt Damon mentioned Luciana Barroso’s help when he “fell into a depression.”

In an interview with “Jake’s Takes,” the 52-year-old actor talked about how a significant other had given him the best professional advice.

In “Oppenheimer,” the actor says, “you sometimes find yourself working on a film you know might not perform as well as you expected,” without naming particular films.

“You’re halfway through production and you still have months left. You’ve taken your family somewhere and they’ve been inconvenienced.”

My wife pulled me up because I had fallen into a depression about, “What have I done?”?”

She just said, ‘We’re here now,'” Damon recalled. In large part because of her, I pride myself on being a professional actor. And being a professional actor means giving everything, even if you know you’re losing.” he added.

The two met in Miami Beach while Damon was filming “Stuck on You.” After a day of shooting, a few crew members persuaded Damon to go out with them. A nightclub bartender named Barroso was serving the group at Crobar, where he worked.

Though Damon didn't name the movie, he has previously spoken out about realizing that his 2016 movie

“I literally saw her across a crowded room,” Damon said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2011. “Eight years and four kids later, that’s my life. I don’t know how else our paths would’ve crossed.”

 The couple married in 2005 and have three daughters Isabella, 16, Gia, 14, and Stella, 12. As a stepfather, he is also the father of Barroso’s 24 year old daughter Alexia from a previous relationship.

Damon discussed shooting his 2016 monster flick “The Great Wall” on the “WTF” podcast. The film grossed less than $50 million at the U.S. box office and sits at a dismal 35% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Damon told host Marc Maron that this was exactly how disasters occur. As a movie, it doesn’t work. It doesn’t make sense.”

He remembered thinking, “OK, I’ve got four more months,” that’s the definition of a professional actor. The up at dawn siege on Hamburger Hill. I’m definitely going to die, but I’m doing it anyway. It’s one of the most disgusting feelings you can experience. Hopefully, I won’t have to experience it again.”
