In a statement a day after filing for divorce, Sam Asghari revealed he and Britney Spears had decided to end their “journey together.” 

The 29-year-old wrote on his Instagram Story, “After 6 years of love and commitment, my wife and I have decided to part ways.”.  

In addition, he said, “We will hold on to the love and respect we have for each other. And I wish her the very best in the future.”

The “Special Ops: Lioness” actor wrote, “S— happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I just ask everyone, including the media, to be kind and thoughtful.” 

The 41-year-old singer has posted once since the split broke, but has not addressed it, only saying that she was buying a horse.

There are so many options, it’s kind of hard !!!” she wrote alongside a photo of her horseback riding. Should I join the camaraderie and wear a pink cowboy hat? Either way, I think I found my sweet spot with Roar. 

Late Wednesday, Asghari filed for divorce in Los Angeles, claiming the couple split three weeks ago on July 28 and requesting financial support from her.

The claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos are all false. No negative intention has ever been directed towards her, and never will be. Sam has always supported her.”

In 2016, Spears and Asghari met after he appeared in her “Slumber Party” video, and the couple got married in June 2022 at her Thousand Oaks mansion, where Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, Kathy Hilton, Maria Menounos, Ansel Elgort and Donatella Versace were among the star-studded guests.

Immediately following the announcement on Instagram, Spears wrote, “Wow !!! Holy holy crap !!! WE DID IT !!! WE GOT MARRIED.”

At 2:00 pm, it really hit me… WE’RE GETTING MARRIED! I had a panic attack and then got it together. It was truly the most spectacular day of my life.
