Halfpenny has announced he is retiring from international rugby.

In his final international game, the 34-year-old back will take part in Wales’ uncapped game against the Barbarians on 4 November. He will continue to play club rugby.

In addition to his 101 caps for Wales, Halfpenny has played four Tests for the British and Irish Lions, scoring 801 points.

“It is with a heavy heart that I make the decision to retire from international rugby,” Halfpenny said.

My decision hasn’t been easy, but I’m looking forward to running out one last time against the Barbarians next week.

It has been an honor and privilege to wear the Welsh jersey and represent my country over the past 15 years.”

In November 2008, Halfpenny, primarily a full-back or wing, made his debut against South Africa at the age of 19.

In addition to his four Test appearances for the Lions, he was also selected in 2009 before injury curtailed his participation.

From full-back, Halfpenny helped the tourists to a 2-1 series victory in Australia in 2013.

Having scored 21 in the third and final test, he broke Neil Jenkins’ record for the most points scored in a Lions Test series with 49.
