US to restrict visas on those undermining Liberia polls

Those who undermine Liberian elections next month will face visa restrictions from the United States.

The move targeted those “undermining democracy in Liberia by manipulating or rigging the electoral process, using violence… or engaging in any other activity designed to improperly influence the outcome of elections”.

According to the State Department, the policy reflects a commitment to ensuring that Liberians have a free and fair election.

Individuals were not named.

Weah is seeking a second term as president.

In the last election five years ago, he lost to opposition leader Joseph Boakai.
