Sriram Raghavan has revealed why he cast Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in Merry Christmas.

It was the story’s demand to cast Katrina along with Vijay, according to the director. The pairing needed to be offbeat.

In my mind, I thought, “What if I did this odd combination?’ I hope it has some curiosity value.”

According to Sriram, the unconventional pair was paired together because the duo had never worked together before.

Merry Christmas was made in two different languages, Hindi and Tamil. The reason he did that is that he himself is Tamil.

He added: “I also wanted to make a Tamil film, since Vijay is a very acclaimed actor in the South. I thought it would be good to make two versions.”

Most of the characters are the same, but I wanted to change some of the language and some of the characters so it wouldn’t look like a dubbed film.”

The movie Merry Christmas will be released on December 15, 2023.
