Juventus midfielder provisionally suspended for anti-doping offence

After Juventus’ 3-0 win over Udinese on 20 August, the national anti-doping agency (Nado) said Pogba returned a test with elevated testosterone levels.
Despite being an unused substitute, Pogba, 30, was randomly selected for a post-match drug test.
A two- to four-year ban could be imposed on him if he is found guilty of doping.
Paul Labile Pogba received a precautionary suspension order from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal today, 11 September, 2023, following tests conducted on 20 August, 2023.
Paul Pogba never wanted to break a rule, Pimenta said. “The club reserves the right to consider the next steps.”
According to Nado, Pogba violated anti-doping rules when they found “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites” and the results were “consistent with exogenous origin.”
Athletes’ endurance is increased by testosterone.
Nado has three days to produce a counter-analysis of Pogba’s results.
After Pogba ran down his contract at Manchester United and left as a free agent, Juventus re-signed him on a four-year contract in July 2022.
Injuries have hindered Pogba’s return to Turin, and he also missed last year’s World Cup in Qatar.
This season, Pogba has played 51 minutes as a substitute for Bologna and Empoli.
During last season, he played 162 minutes and did not score in six Serie A games, three brief appearances in the Europa League, and 11 minutes in the Coppa Italia.
Following his appearance against Empoli, Juventus manager Massimo Allegri said Pogba picked up a minor back injury.
