Cement despatches fall by 22.80pc in June

There were 4.063 million tons of cement shipped in June, down 22.80 percent from 5.264 million tons shipped in the same month last fiscal year.

According to the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, local cement despatches in June 2023 were 3.487 million tons, down from 4.979 million tons in June 2022, showing a decline of 29.97%. In June 2023, exports despatched increased by 102.59%, from 284,471 tons to 576,309 tons.

As compared with June 2022, 2.950 million tons of cement were shipped from North based cement mills in June 2023. During June 2023, South-based mills shipped 1.113 million tons of cement, which was 6.60% more than the 1.044 million tons shipped during June 2022.

In June 2023, cement mills in the North despatched 2.855 million tons of cement in domestic markets, a decrease of 30.75% from June 2022, when they shipped 4.122 million tons. Cement was shipped in 632,093 tons to local markets during June 2023, 26.23% less than in June 2022 when 856,863 tons were shipped. North American mills exported 95,333 tons in June 2023 as compared to 97,163 tons in June 2022. In June 2023, South exports increased by 156.78% from 187,308 tons during the same month last year to 480,976 tons. The total cement despatched in fiscal year 2022-23 (domestic and exports) was 44.579 million tons, down 15.71% from 52.891 million tons in fiscal year 2021-22. Last year’s domestic despatches were 47.635 million tons, showing a 16.00% reduction. Additionally, exports decreased by 13.13 percent to 4.566 million tons during fiscal year 2022-23, down from 5.256 million tons in the previous fiscal year.

During the fiscal year 2022-23, north-based mills shipped 32.776 million tons of cement domestically, a decrease of 16.89% from last year’s 39.439 million tons. During fiscal year 2022-23, North exported 1.069 million tons compared with 911,065 tons exported in the previous fiscal year. From 40.350 million tons last fiscal year, North based mills dispatched 33.846 million tons during fiscal year 2022-23. In fiscal year 2022-23, domestic cement shipments by South-based mills decreased by 11.70% to 7.237 million tons from 8.196 million tons in fiscal year 2021-22. The South’s exports declined by 19.53 percent from 4.345 million tons exported last year to 3.496 million tons during the fiscal year 2022-23. In fiscal year 2022-23, the total amount of materials shipped by South based mills decreased by 14.41% to 10.734 million tons from 12.541 million tons in fiscal year 2021-22. According to a spokesman for the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, the government should facilitate export-oriented industries so that the country can regain momentum in the international markets. Our economy will benefit greatly from boosting exports. According to him, signing a standby agreement with the IMF is only an interim solution, and we should use our own resources to build a stronger Pakistan.
