ERNIE 4.0 is the company’s newest version of its artificial intelligence chatbot, which is directly compared to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

At Baidu’s annual flagship event, Robin Li, Baidu’s billionaire CEO, said the new ERNIE Bot is superior in all aspects to GPT-4.

Onstage, Li showed how the bot could create a commercial for a car within minutes, solve complicated math problems, and write a plot for a martial arts novel from scratch. Mandarin Chinese is the bot’s primary language. In addition, it can handle queries and provide responses in English at a less advanced level.

Li said the demonstrations showed how the bot had improved in terms of understanding queries, generating complex responses, and memorizing information.

It was able to recall previous instructions and create sophisticated story lines by adding conflicts and characters while coming up with ideas for the novel, Li said.

He quipped, “We always complained that AI wasn’t intelligent enough.”.

Fortunately, today, it understands almost everything you say, and in some cases, it understands better than your friends or colleagues.”

Baidu is “the first vendor in China” to claim that it can compete with GPT-4, according to Charlie Dai, vice president and research director at Forrester.
