After joining Chelsea from Rennes for 27 million euros (£23.2 million), manager Mauricio Pochettino says Lesley Ugochukwu may go on loan.

As of now, Pochettino has not decided Ugochukwu’s immediate future despite his seven-year contract.

In addition to 47 appearances in Ligue 1, he has also played in the Europa League for Rennes.

After the tour, we will assess him in London after he begins training today.

As a young, talented player, now is the time to assess him until the end of the transfer window and see if he is going to join us or if he could be loaned.”

Although Ugochukwu has yet to make his senior France debut, he has represented Les Bleus at under-17, under-18, and under-19 levels. His deal has an option for another year.

As a result of the Blues’ June purchase of Strasbourg, he might return to Ligue 1 next season.

With a £80m bid rejected last week, Chelsea have been pursuing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo throughout the transfer window, while Pochettino has been seeking experienced players.

As a result of spending £600m in the last two transfer windows, Chelsea is looking to sign young talent with the potential to become future stars while clearing out their bloated squad.

This summer, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount all moved to Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United, respectively, while N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy joined the Saudi Pro League.

Both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic have left for AC Milan, while West Ham United have made a £40m offer for Conor Gallagher.

As well as Brazilian youngster Angelo Gabriel, Chelsea have already signed attackers Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.

Among the 29-man squad that is traveling to the US, only Ugochukwu is a newcomer, but Pochettino is pleased with the Blues’ summer recruitment.

We knew when we joined that we would encounter this situation, so I’m not disappointed,” said the Argentine.

We are working hard to finish the squad as soon as possible, so I’m satisfied with the way the club is working.

Obviously some things will happen in the last few weeks of the transfer window. It’s always better to have everything closed before – not only for us, but also for other clubs.”

Chelsea appears to be planning to keep Colwill

Following a successful loan spell at Brighton last season, the future of defender Levi Colwill has been widely discussed this summer.

It looks like the 20-year-old will join the Chelsea squad next season after posting a farewell message on Instagram.

“We were discussing him competing with different team-mates, about deserving to play and he will definitely play if he deserves it,” Pochettino said.

Because Ben [Badiashile] is injured, his chances are higher since he is a left-footed centre back.

As a player, he must demonstrate that he deserves to play and that he is ready to do so.”
