With a win over Sevilla, Arsenal got back to winning ways in the Champions League with a goal and an assist from Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners came through a difficult test against the seven-time Europa League champions despite losing 2-1 to Lens in their previous European outing.

In first-half stoppage time, Gabriel Martinelli scored the visitors’ first goal, racing onto Jesus’ brilliant ball and rounding the goalkeeper.

In the second half, Jesus scored a spectacular goal into the top corner to increase Arsenal’s lead.

As a result of a set-piece headed in by Nemanja Gudelj, Sevilla came back into the game.

David Raya tipped Mariano’s shot on to the crossbar, although it may not have counted due to a possible handball, as the hosts tried to find an equaliser.

In the second half, Mikel Arteta’s team suffered a late blow as Jesus left the field with a suspected hamstring injury, but they held on for victory, moving them to the top of Group B.

In their first Champions League season after a six-year absence, the Gunners have a squad that is still finding its feet, and several players have never played in it before.

Martinelli, who scored Arsenal’s opening goal, will be grateful to Jesus for his European experience, which was evident here.

With a hostile atmosphere at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, the Gunners needed their big players to step up, and Jesus did exactly that.
