Armed man arrested twice while looking for Wisconsin Governor

When an armed man demanded to speak with the Wisconsin governor in the state capitol, he was arrested, posted bail, and returned – only to be arrested again.
Wednesday afternoon, a shirtless man with a holstered handgun was taken into custody for illegally carrying a firearm.
Nevertheless, he posted bail and returned that evening with an assault rifle.
A state official reports that Democrat Governor Tony Evers was not at his capitol office when the incident occurred.
However, the governor’s office declined to comment, telling that it did not comment on specific security threats.
On Wednesday, Mr Evers met with individuals testifying against a number of bills in the Capitol.
During an event in Oregon on Thursday, he told reporters he was fine.
It’s a good thing the capitol police handled the situation, but it’s always something you don’t want to see happen,” he said.
Whenever something like this happens, obviously they reevaluate their security protocols. I never talk about what my security detail does or what they plan to do.”
Tatyana Warrick, a spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Department of Administration, says the armed man approached Mr Evers’ office around 15:00 EST (19:00 GMT) on Wednesday.
He appeared at the security desk outside the governor’s office with a leashed dog and refused to leave until he met Mr Evers, she said.
A single police officer sits at the desk on the first floor of the building, which also houses the attorney general’s office and a conference room.
It is legal to carry weapons into the building if they are concealed and the carrier has a valid permit, but the man was carrying his openly without one.
